Last Thursday evening my mother called me to come look at my grandma's lower legs. She said they were "really red & swollen". Naturally... I was up there in less than 5 minutes. After a glance, I really didn't think too much about it. They were both fairly red, but as crazy as it may sound... having redness in both legs was comforting (usually not a blood clot, cellulitis, etc.). After a trip to the doctor on Friday, she was started on an antibiotic. Saturday came around and they were worse. Thinking "worst case scenario", I took her to the ER. They gave her some IV fluid and an antibiotic and then sent her home. Sunday, she wasn't much better. Monday, she went back to the doctor - but there was no change in treatment. Tuesday, she couldn't even get out of bed. So, back to the ER she went. Soon to be sent home again. I was working late Tuesday evening when mom called me to tell me that grandma's temperature was 102 F. Back to the ER for the 3rd time she went. I met them at the door. At this point, I was loosing my patience. I demanded that she be admitted for observation and treatment. I got my way. :) After 4 days in the hospital, I am pleased to report that she is much better and got to come home today. We think she may have had a little infection somewhere in her body, but could never really find the source. We ruled out just about everything. She was very dehydrated and needed IV fluid and antibiotics. I hope this weekend is more restful for all of us! I know I am planning on taking a few naps - even if I have to crawl into bed with Grandma!!!
